A diorama displays a scene or location through a 3-D model and turns simple text from a reading into a visual display. Dioramas can depict the model of a home, a scene from a movie or book or an animal habitat. A panda lives in a temperate forest with rocks and trees. They receive plenty of rain during the year and have plenty of bamboo for pandas to feed on. A shoebox diorama is a way for children to learn about where pandas live.

Step 1

Pour white glue into a bowl and spread a light layer all around the inside of the box with a sponge brush.

Step 2

Apply light blue tissue paper on the inside of the box. Stick it to the bottom and top, right and left sides. Use green tissue paper on the remaining side. When you stand the box up on its side length-wise, the green will be on the bottom to represent the ground.

Step 3

Crumple a wad of newspaper and wrap it in brown tissue paper. Place it in the bottom-left corner of the box to represent a mountain.

Step 4

Wrap toothpicks with pipe cleaners and stick them on top of the mountain to represent the bamboo.

Step 5

Gather dried leaves, grass and sticks from outside or use plastic toys from a dollar store. Glue them to the bottom of the habitat to give the diorama a wooded feel.

Tip

Add a toy panda to the habitat to place it in its natural habitat.
